During the first session, the students worked in pairs and each group studied two adverts.

We chose modern adverts as they are generally more subtle in their sexist aspects (but not always) . They also had to do some research on the « produce » promoted. They had to determine whether  the advert presented a sexist or stereotypicalimage of women (or men) or not. They wrote articles about each advert, giving their opinions and arguments to support their ideas. They were also invited to find how the advertisement could be improved and made less sexist or stereotypical. Their articles were compiled in a Powerpoint presentation.

During the second lesson, the students presented their work to the other students in the group. . A discussion followed. They were filmed during their presentation

The students realised how sexist some adverts can be, even if at first sight, nothing is shocking. Our mentalities are sobiased that sometimes we do not even realise that we are manipulated and confirmed in stereotypes and sexism.

However, they sometimes realized that some advertisements are clearly neutral and do not present any usual stereotypes about men and women, or even try to break them.

They created a powerpoint presentation with their articles, thus improving their digital skills. They made oral presentations, which is always a great challenge for many pupils.  A video of their oral presentations was made.
