RO22 Discovering Bukovina. Trip in Suceava county

We left Suceava in the morning and drove through the Bukovinian countryside. Romanian senior students gave explanations in English about places and monuments on the bus during the journey.

Then, we stopped at a local pottery workshop and the students had the opportunity to see a Romanian craftsman at work. One Finnish and one French student had the opportunity to try to make a pottery with the help of the potter.

Further away, we drove through the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains to a 1000 metre-high summit where we had a wonderful view of the snow-covered region. There was a statue in the shape of a hand erected in honour of the workerswho built the road. We took a photo of the entire group just in front of it.

After that refreshing stop, we headed for two monasteries and specifically the Voronet monastery, one of the most famouspainted monasteries from southern Bukovina on the Unesco Heritage list in Suceava county. The monastery wasconstructed by Stephen the Great in 1488. Its frescoes representing the last judgment feature a unique and  intense shadeof blue known as « Voronet blue ».

After visiting it, we shared a meal in a nearby restaurant where we were able to taste traditional  Romanian food.  Afterlunch,   

French, Romanian and Finnish students had to choose a traditionnal childhood game (one for each country). Theyexplained it in English and demonstrated. Finally everybody could play these games inside the restaurant or snow gamesoutside.

The students discovered parts of the traditions and culture of Romania and especially Bukovina. They tasted Romaniancuisine, visited several places and saw a local craftsman at work. Sharing friendly moments together, they got to know each other better and a group spirit was created. This prepared them for the rest of the activities of the week.
