GIV Through the eyes of a woman

First, at the end of February,  a group of 4th graders from the Collège Boris Vian College prepared questions in English about the evolution of women's lives and rights over the last 50 years, about historical events and the great advances they have experienced, about old wives’remedies, etc.. There were 11 questions altogether:

At school : Were the classes mixed ? Did boys and girls practise the same sports at school ?

At home : How were the chores shared at home ? Tell us an old wives’ remedy (from yourself, your mother or grandmother)

History and society: Was it usual for women to work? Was there a pay gap between women and men ?

Were there any jobs forbidden to women ? Was the attitude of men towards women in the street different ?

What was the role of women in politics ? What was the largest advance for women  during the 20th century ?

Could you tell us an historic event you lived ?

 These questions were sent to the members of the ADRA (Association Dunkerquoise pour une Retraite Active) studying English with a former teacher from the Collège Boris Vian still taking part in Erasmus+ projects. These questions were  discussed and debated in class and a summary of all the answers was prepared.

On Tuesday, March 21, 8 members from the ADRA aged from 65 to 80 agreed to be the ambassadors of the 2 groups and  went to Coudekerque-Branche for a meeting with the students. They answered questions prepared by the students (in English and  French when needed) and talked about their experience. The participants answered on their behalf and also on behalf of the other members who could not come. They were very committed and did remarkably well in this assignment. A small party closed the meeting.

The students were really interested and realised how life for women has changed during the last fifity years. They wereimpressed to meet people having lived historical events and happy to hear old wives’s remedies.
