RO22 Inspiring international teen girls

Women’s impact on the world is a story that has slowly been coming to light over the past century. Through history, female warriors have conquered foreign lands, female explorers have pushed back frontiers and female artists, writers and activists have changed mentalities and attitudes. Thus, knowing women’s stories provides essential role models.

Students watch a video about young female hero characters as portrayed in mass-media, a metaphor for a highly moral spirit.
Students read about young women’s accomplishments in different historical periods and fields of activity (music, arts, politics etc.)
Students work in groups and discuss the development of these women, their role in today’s society and the society’s expectations.

After this students compare and contrast the characteristics of these heroines and sketch (in words and drawings) the portrait of their own female contemporary hero; also, students are encouraged to bring arguments in favour of their choice and associate their heroine with a song that best represents her.
