OOD Women in Mythology and Bible

First, the students were brought together and the Finnish teacher of psychology and mythology showed them a slide show that represented different female characters throughout time, especially in Christianity (female characters which are borrowed from earlier religious mythology such as Isis from Egypt, Virgin Mary (who was mother and virgin at the same time) or Eve in the Bible, who was mother giving birth to children, but also seductress and sinner at the same time); then she explained what an archetype was. Afterwards she described the tasks of the day's workshop : the students were divided into 5 groups working on a topic : Scandinavian, Finnish, French, Romanian and Christian mythology (great goddess, virgin, Madonna, whore, helper, nurse etc.). Each group had to search different finds of patterns of female goddesses in mythology and choose an independent female character who broke traditions and conventions, who did not obey the dominant system: they did their research on her personality, qualities, character and the environment and context she was living in. They also had to explain why she was a role model, an inspiring, brave character for girls and women nowadays. Later, they had to make a collage from pictures they had chosen or draw, make music, poems…

After lunch, they presented their posters in the school auditorium. Some students wore costumes and props, some also played music or sang after their presentation.
