First, the students read the play written by Marivaux : “La Colonie”. Then, they made a powerpoint about the playwright, theatre in the 18th century, the ancient inspiration of "La Colonie" (the Greek playwright Aristophanes), comedy and utopia. Some students presented their powerpoint written in their mother tongue in English to the class.  Finally, they were divided into 18 groups (18 scenes in Marivaux's play) : each group worked on a scene from the play which they rewrote in 21st century language and then made a video in which they had to read their text in a tone appropriate to the social condition, age and gender of the character they were playing.

The students developed knowledge about the fight for equality between men and women since antiquity, the analysis of a theatrical text, in particular comedy. In addition, they worked on language levels and developed their speaking skills by working on their voice.
