OOD – Cinderella, a modern rewrite by a French playwright

Firstly, the students read press articles about the play "Cinderella" written and directed by contemporary playwright and director Joel Pommerat and an interview in which he explains how he works with his team and how he conceives the design of the set with Éric Soyer. They also listen to a "France Culture" podcast from 04/06/2017 in which he presents his play and his performance and they watch the video "Éclats d'un conte" in which each actor presents the character(s) they play. 

Then, they go to the Dunkirk theatre “Le Bateau Feu" to watch the performance of this play. The discovery and analysis of the production focuses on the originality of this re-writing which, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the tale, emphasises the question of Sandra's grief and her journey to accept the death of her mother. At the end of the performance, volunteer students can discuss with the director and the actors of the play.

After the performance, the students are asked to write an acrostic based on the title "Cinderella" in which they have to emphasise what interested them most and how they felt about it.
