FR23 The museum of lace and fashion

In Calais, there is an authentic 19th century lace factory, International City of Lace and Fashion. It is a rare museum of lace woven on looms. There are big galleries which present the techniques, lingerie and haute couture. Pupils found out about history of lace and fashion evolution. They saw that they made clothes of lace not only for women but also for men. They saw how most of the jobs were occupied by men, not women. Women could do work only at home.

This machine replaces 80,000 lace makers per hour! It is still in use.
