PT22 Preparing the visit to the exhibition in Coimbra about “Pioneer women”

In preparation for the Coimbra exhibition "Pioneer women", this workshop consisted in reproducing the work of a Portuguese artist : Helena Almeida (1934 - 2018) known for her work in photography, performance art, body art, painting and drawing. Since 1975, this female artist has used her own body : "my body is my work and my work is my body", her work from the 1980s was distinguished by the omnipresence of the body, and in the series "Seduce" from the early 2000s, she interpreted bodies, feet and hands that sought a relationship with the ground, through natural or choreographed poses that were all attempts to make the body speak, to seduce. In this workshop led by an art teacher, each student stayed with his or her correspondent. Two large and white strips of scenario paper were placed on the floor. First, the Italian and French students were asked to lie down on one strip on scenario paper : the Portuguese correspondents had to trace the contours of the bodies with a marker on one of the strips. Then, the roles were reversed : the Portuguese students lay down and the French and Italian students drew the contours of their bodies on the same strip. Finally, the art teacher cut the two strips into different parts and distributed them to each student who had to paint it. 

At the end of the workshop, students exhibited the pieces of their work on a school wall.
